HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - New details are coming to light about the Atlantic Beach police chief’s arrest.

Chief Quentin Robinson, 41, is charged with first-offense prostitution.

Horry County police arrested Robinson and nine others after a prostitution sting on Tuesday.

Robinson and the others allegedly talked online to someone undercover and agreed to meet them to exchange money for sexual favors.

Police said they all came to a hotel on 21st Avenue North in Myrtle Beach where the money was exchanged before each suspect was arrested.

Robinson paid $120, according to an incident report.

Atlantic Beach Town Manager Benjamin Quattlebaum said Robinson, who has been the town’s police chief since 2017, will be placed on administrative leave with pay while they investigate. He added that the second in command in the department will be taking over in the meantime.

Quattlebaum also said that before this charge, Robinson served his role in “exemplary fashion.”

Quattlebaum’s full statement can be viewed below:

We just found out and don’t have all of the details involving the arrest of Chief Robinson at this time, but if the charges are true, he will be placed on administrative leave with pay pending a full investigation. In terms of the reasons for his arrest, and under our personnel policy, will be given due process and evaluate the circumstances around his arrest.

At this time, the Town of Atlantic Beach will have an officer next in command taking charge of the police department, and we assure the community that the town remains strong and safe in this police protection and services.

The historic four-block town of Atlantic Beach has four officers, with Robinson included, according to Quattlebaum.

With him on administrative leave, the town will be down to three officers.

Quattlebaum said he’s not worried about the numbers but did say they are trying to evaluate and figure out a plan.

Court records show Robinson bonded out for $500 Wednesday morning.

Myrtle Beach Police Department, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Horry County Sheriff’s Office helped with Tuesday’s sting operation.

“Thank you to the public safety partners who joined us in this investigation,” Horry County police stated in a news release. “Through teamwork and collaboration, we continue to make public safety a priority and shared responsibility.”
