The big explosion at the end looks like something detonating. One big something going up with a shockwave. Sympathetic detonation of large quantity of explosives or a tank or hydrocarbons going up.

Well, you touched on something perhaps important. Fireworks don’t have any protective casings like ammunitions, bombs, rockets, etc. and so the warehouse should have blown about the same time the minor explosions were happening.

Not an explosive expert, but you shouldn’t be able to see firecrackers exploding from a mile or so away which suggests they weren’t firecrackers.

I don’t think we will ever know the truth. Lebanon is as corrupt as the come because of the Hezbollah dominance and the probability the explosion didn’t have anything to do with fireworks, or if it it did, it set off serious military munitions.

While in Vietnam in 1969, our company position about 15 miles south of Da Nang saw the Army’s Da Nang’s ammunition depot explode due to a brush fire. At 15 miles, we heard the explosions and felt the main shock wave though it was very mild. The Beirut explosion was very much like some of the many major explosions at the ammunition dump in Vietnam.

I don’t think the Beirut event was due to fireworks.

At the beginning, It was fireworks, you can see them going off in the brown smoke. But big ones, not firecrackers. The big explosion, definitely not black powder. A big effing tank of hydrocarbons (propane, etc) or just maybe straight explosives. Overturned cars, broken windows miles away, it was big. I was in the air force and worked aircraft armament for about 12 years. This was bigger than any single bomb, by several orders of magnitude. That thing was like an ammo igloo going off. Tons of explosives, I can’t even estimate it. By the way, we actually used the Bien Hoa accident movie as a training video on armament safety (and the Forrestal of course).

I have seen the aftereffects of a 40,000 lb. dynamite explosion – and this blast seems to me to be at least ten times as powerful. I think this blast is more like the Halifax explosion in 1918, or like the Houston TX explosion in 1946. The former blast was so huge that Oppenheimer used the calculations from the blast to estimate damages from the A-bombs before they were dropped.

I’m sure all this crap that blew up was stored strictly in accordance with safe storage procedures and regulations. Right? By the way folks, stay away from black powder; it’s an oldie but still nasty. Only needs a bit of heat or friction to set it off.

Whatever the cause, I am sure Israel will be blamed for the explosion.

Don’t make claims without at least some evidence.

He just said they will be blamed, can’t you read? There doesn’t have to be any evidence, to blame Israel.

red phosphorus military grade smoke used in mortors, grenades and other shells, Lebanese don’t celebrate the 4th of july. It was probably a shipment of weapons from Iran to hezbolah.

The ingredients while not specifically a bomb once set off became a 2.2 kiloton bomb, by accident or intent.

One video I saw shows what looks like an incoming missile in the seconds before the explosion. A cache of Iranian missiles intended to be aimed at Israel being taken out by an incoming missile seems like the most logical conclusion. The fact Lebanese officials can’t get their stories straight only backs it up.
