Two of the Biden Administration’s federal agencies are continuing to hide the information and process by which they determine that certain alternative treatments for the Chinese Coronavirus are to be censored and even banned by the government.
According to Just The News, a lawsuit has been filed against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) over their censorship campaigns, with several doctors claiming to have suffered wide-ranging injuries as a result of the government spreading disinformation about ivermectin, a popular and highly effective treatment for COVID-19.
In response to the lawsuit, the FDA and HHS both filed renewed motions to dismiss the lawsuit, with both motions being filed under seal. The agencies cited “lack of subject-matter jurisdiction,” claiming that the doctors lack legal standing, in their request on December 2nd for an extended period of time to submit a proper motion to dismiss.
The doctors point to the agencies’ use of strict “command” language to demonize the use or promotion of ivermectin as an alternative to the official COVID vaccines, including openly telling people to “stop it” when it comes to taking ivermectin. Ivermectin is an anti-parasite drug that has previously been effective in treating malaria, and was found to tackle many of the same symptoms seen in COVID.
The lawsuit was reinstated last year by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, after the court found that the doctors had plausible reason to say that the FDA exceeded its authority with “tweet-sized doses of personalized medical advice.” The panel of three judges asked U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Brown to consider “standing and any other jurisdictional issues in the first instance,” which led to Brown agreeing with the agencies’ decision to file the motion under seal.
“One of the plaintiffs in this case is a party to a separate, state-level confidential proceeding,” the agencies claimed in their motion on December 22nd. Brown approved the motion on December 26th.
The debate over the effectiveness of ivermectin, and subsequent efforts by federal agencies, social media companies, and mainstream media outlets to censor the promotion of the drug was one of the core elements of the broader debate over COVID-19 and its treatments in 2020 and 2021. Among those who supported the use of ivermectin was popular podcaster Joe Rogan, who said that he took ivermectin when he became sick with COVID and found that it effectively cured him. At the peak of the debate, Rogan clashed with CNN after the network falsely characterized the drug as a “horse dewormer,” and threatened to sue the network over its attacks against him.
