“Deactivated”: Columbia Reportedly Blocks Jewish Professor from Access to Campus

Professor Shai Davidai, an assistant professor at Columbia Business School, was reportedly denied access to the main campus on Friday as his school ID was “deactivated” during the recent protests over the Israeli-Gaza conflict. What was equally concerning is that the university did so for his own protection out of concern that, as an outspoken Jewish faculty member, he could not walk around the campus safely. It was reminiscent of the recent controversy of a man in London threatened with arrest because being “quite openly Jewish” would trigger pro-Palestinian protesters.

Davidai said that the university told him they banned him from campus because they could not ensure his safety. This followed a Columbia rabbi telling Jewish students to leave campus for their own safety.

The most basic obligation of a university is to ensure the safety of its faculty and students from physical assaults. If there is a problem on campus, it is found in those students or faculty who would threaten a Jewish professor if he were to walk on campus.

This is not part of the debate over what language is considered a threat or hateful rhetoric. This is barring a professor because his status alone makes his presence inflammatory or dangerous. I cannot imagine how the solution was barring the potential victim of religious-based bigotry and violence.

We have not heard from Columbia University on the “deactivation.” Unless Professor Davidai is lying, someone cut off his access in the university. The university owes him and the Columbia community an immediate explanation. Indeed, University President Nemat “Minouche” Shafik should have issued a statement yesterday.

There are calls for Shafik to resign. That position is not helped by the silence on the barring of a faculty member. If the accounts are untrue, Shafik needs to say so. If they are true, she needs to explain the basis for this extraordinary action. I cannot imagine the basis for such a deactivation since Shafik has not been accused of any threatening conduct himself.

As major donors like Robert Kraft pull their financial support from Columbia, the school will need to respond more quickly and transparently to such controversies. That can start by reactivating the card of Professor Davidai and supplying whatever security is needed to allow him and others to walk around campus without fear of assault.

  1. The time is overdue to ELIMINATE all U.S. Government funding of private Leftist Indoctrination Entities (“LIEs”). The U.S. Government is the primary funder of “research” for those LIEs (or “kolleges” if you insist on an anachronistic term). LIEs are heavily dependent on those government funds to perform all sorts of bogus Lefist “research,” such as why cops are (fake) racist, why fake (nonexistent) “Islamophobia” is a bigger problem them anti-Semitism, why DEI results in greater merit and production, and other such worthless–but EXPENSIVE–“research.”

The time is also overdue to eliminate the tax-exempt status of the LIEs. They are no longer educational institutions. They are merely mechanisms of indoctrinating all “stoodents” (stooges) into worthless, dangerous, and destructive far Leftists and promoting Leftism generally.

By hitting LIEs with this double-whammy, the LIEs will either be forced into changing back into genuine educational institutions to survive, or they will vanish.

  2. All you need to know about COLUMBIA is to read the general biography of its President, Dean, whatever she calls herself, BARONESS SHAFIK. Then ask yourself, why was she suddenly appointed to preside over a lowly place like Columbia? She is obviously there to look after HAMAS and the kiddies, on behalf of the IDF.

  3. In all likelihood, few if any of you will read this: There appears to be a non-rebuttal presumption that voters will not vote for DJT is this trial results in a conviction. Perhaps a very few. But this presumption is definitely rebuttable. There are so many voters more than in 2020 who voted for lunchbucket Joe who will not vote for him this time, largely because of his growing dementia and the thought of the damage his policies will do from 2025 to 2029.

    1. RE: Biden’s “policies…from 2025 to 2029.” What are you, Anonymous, the silly Oracle at Delphi? Clarification of theoretical “policies” would be a nice gesture.

  4. Leftists only attack in gangs where they can outnumber their victims. They wear masks to hide their identities. They try to get other people cancelled. They try to win elections by trying to throw their opponents in jail. They are afraid to let the American people decide the election. They are afraid of a man-to-man election contest.
    Leftists are cowards.

  5. When Davidai roams campus like baboon in heat looking to provoke, then Columbia has a duty to deactivate him under negligence theory. All they did, is prevent foreseeable injury.

How did he get his job, anyway?

    1. Can’t expect the moron hamas supporters to actually control themselves , can you? Who’s the monkey?

  6. First London then a week later I’m reading the same thing here. Why do people keep voting for the same political parties in both countries? When are people going to wise up and realize the system is rigged?

You can vote for all the Donald Trumps or Margorie Taylor Greenes you want but you’ll never change anything until you vote OUT the party candidates on BOTH sides. Its fixed. Don’t you people get it yet? I mean have you never been to a Carnival? Its fixed. Rigged. You can have the best arm this side of your alma mater but you’ll never get the ring over the Rolex because ITS RIGGED. It doesn’t fit! You won’t get the watch you’ll get the Cupie doll dummy. WAKE UP.

Republicans and democrats ARE THE SAME THING. They just squawk differently. You’re getting the same damn thing no matter which one ya vote for. Wake up! LEARN.

The republicans and democrats just flushed another 100 BILLION of our tax dollars down the drain tonight in the war to provoke Russia and feed their personal financial portfolios.

When are the “smart people” going to wise up and learn?

I’m guessing not in what’s left of my lifetime.

    1. Oh and they banned Tik Tok together too in the same “spending bill”.

They be in cahoots….. git it…?

sorry for the off topic rant, …but what’s gotta be said’s gotta be said.

        1. Thanks but you did not spell it out.
You said vote out the party candidates on both sides.
I assume for this election you mean: vote for Bobby K.
So I will ask again, what is your solution?
If Bobby K. cannot get on the ballot in every state, and BK cannot “win” an election, what is your solution?
The swamp cannot be drained from within the swamp for sure.
Even if BK could “win,” the swamp, the deep state, will sabotage and destroy (or kill) anyone who tries from within the system to ‘drain the swamp.’ They’ve got a good thing going and they will not give it all up without a nasty battle. And they will win, every time.
The outsider will be destroyed. The swamp will never do anything to destroy itself.
So again, what is the solution?

        1. Like I said Spanky, my solution with you starts with a reading comprehension course.

After you graduate then reread my comment and if you still want to open your flytrap on it, at least then you’ll know what its about.

          ….like talking to a lampshade.

  7. The reason why there is such a frantic attempt to take out the former President is because there is a great deal of fear of what will happen when he becomes President again. As it so often does, the tables turn, and those in power find themselves powerless and on the receiving end of power.

Take the Nuremberg trials for example. All the tough looking SS bullies looked like turtles out of their shells or slugs once their power dried up. I predict that when he makes it through their latest and most ridiculous attempts to drag him down, they will up the ante. These activists cannot afford to lose power now and will do anything they can to hang onto it.

It will be interesting to see how the New York state government and the city of New York will react when they’re funding is shut off when Trump is president again. It happened with Lyndon B. Johnson when he was maligned by politicians, he simply cut off their goodies and they were helpless and their constituents suffered.
