UPDATE: GOAL ACHIEVED

I didn’t want to set an official goal for this fundraiser because I had no idea what to expect. My top-end goal was to raise $3,000, a buck from every daily user. Unfortunately, I only received about 100 donations. Fortunately, this isn’t a Pro-Bernie news aggregate site, and you ballers came through with an AVERAGE donation of $30. About 80% of the donations were in the $10-$30 range, 15% were in the $1-$10 range, and about 5% were in the holy shit range. I would also like to give a huge shout-out to the people that were generous enough to continue donating monthly.

I am completely floored by the amount of support I have received for this site in the last 36 hours. The monetary support has been unbelievable, but what really overwhelmed me were the messages of encouragement. The fact that I was receiving money and being thanked at the same time was truly motivating, and was a much needed affirmation that what I am doing here everyday is important and worthwhile.

I’m going to leave this post as the headline for the rest of the day and after that I’ll place a link to this post on the bottom of the Rantingly homepage. That way people will still have a chance to donate if they would like and we can also get the Rantingly headline back to reporting news…because enough about me already.

1st Annual Rantingly Fundraiser

Hello Rantingly users. This is Nick, the guy who runs this beautiful site.

First of all, let me just get straight to the point of this post…

Rantingly is currently at a crossroads and I need your help to keep this site going…

The opportunity cost of running this site is enormous…

This site requires an insane amount of hours (about 80 a week) to stay up to date and to maintain the quality that makes all 3,000 of you coming here everyday…

Financially I’m at the point where I should really be increasing the amount of hours I work outside of Rantingly…

The more time I spend away from the site, the more the quality of this site will decrease…

I really don’t want to have to do that…

I’m a little bit biased but I truly believe that this is the best news site on the internet and I want to continue to try and make it even better…

I’ve put so much work into making this site what it is today that I can’t really stand the thought of seeing it diminished…So…

Full Disclosure: Most of the donated money will go towards my living expenses, which will enable me to keep this site running. Donations will also go towards the cost of maintaining this site, including another server upgrade which I plan on doing before the end of the month…

Not many of you know this, but Rantingly is a one-man show started by me in August 2017, and yesterday was the official 2-year anniversary of the site. I’m always humbled when I receive messages in my inbox that say things like, “you guys are doing a great job” or “tell your staff to get a dictionary”.  There is no staff or team, its just me. Over 50,000 articles posted in 730 days and not one of them has been to the New York Times, Washington Post, or CNN…

I was inspired to make this site when I began to notice how difficult it was to find a trustworthy news site. My usual “go-to” sites were not even mentioning the stories I was most interested in reading about. Even worse, the site I trusted the most was beginning to fall victim to the constant barrage of MSM hoaxes. This was the last straw…

So I had a couple of beers and started to make a website…

It’s quite possible I had one too many because I came up with the name Rantingly while listening to the Clancy Brothers…

Sweet…

So after about a day or two of getting the proper layout, teaching myself some basic html and learning what a widget was, Rantingly.com was born…
